Northern Arizona (D2) Makes NCRHA Debut

What started as a group of California and Arizona kids playing NARCh tournaments with their college buddies after the ACHA ice hockey season, the Lumberjacks have been trying to get a team together to play in the NCRHA for years — but with the ACHA team consuming nearly all of the time of the potential roller hockey roster, things just never seemed to fall into place. Until now.

Trevor Riffey showed up in Flagstaff for his graduate program and almost out of nowhere, quickly became the man that could  — and actually would — get the program up and running. Riffey, who skates in the summers with the LA Pama Cyclones and Konixx Outcasts, played two years of NCRHA hockey at Long Beach State before transferring to Cal Baptist to finish his undergraduate degree.  He came into the fold just as interest was heating up but club organization was dying down. This will be an interesting weekend for NAU as they play 6 games. Keep an eye on Riffey, former Outcasts ’97 skater Camden Taylor and another former NCRHA player, Austin Cannon (ex-Arizona Wildcat). The Jacks await standout grinder Trevor Scott and a few of their other ACHA players that will be playing 2nd Semester.

Arizona (D2 and D3) Starts Season This Weekend

The Wildcats, led by Senior forward Jesse Rooney, were a top team in the country in D2 last season, winning the WCRHL Conference Championship and placing in Pool A at Nationals, where they struggled to find their groove. The game to watch for the Cats will be against the other Cats, Chico State (noted below).

Lindenwood Gold (D3) Comes to Town

The Lions will face D3 opponents Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara, as well as two D1 opponents, the ASU D1 team and Long Beach State. Check the preview of the ASU/LU game below, and make sure to read our article on LU coming to California here.

Games to Watch:

D2: Cal State Fullerton (4-0-0) vs. Northern Arizona (0-0-0)
Saturday 11/19 @ 10:00 AM
NAU will have a game under their belts before facing one of the top D2
teams in the country. Look for NAU's Trevor Riffey to shut down CSUF's
Anthony Squirek (9g/3a/12 pts, 3 PPG in 4 GP) and the rest of the Titans.

D2: Arizona (0-0-0) vs. Chico State (3-1-0)
Sunday 11/20 @ 10:00 AM
The last time these two teams faced off was this past April
in a Pool A game at Nationals. Chico State won that one, 4-2.

D3: Arizona State (4-0-0) vs. Lindenwood Gold (6-2-1)
Saturday 11/19 @ 7:30 PM
Lindenwood Gold could play in D1 if the league rules allowed it.
The Lions, who have played both Bethel D1 and UMSL D1 to 2 goal games,
are led by Jake Escarcega (4g/14a/18 pts in 9 GP) and goaltender
Charlie Robinson. ASU will look to their veterans in this one -- namely
Zach Kenyon, Chris Lombardo and goalie Eddie Cini.
